Head chef Clare discusses The Crown and Anchor Spring Menu

With the launch of the Crown and Anchor spring menu fast approaching, head chef, Clare Hutchinson talks about the inspiration behind the new dishes, how the ingredients were sourced and the process of developing such a diverse line up of recipes.
The Crown and Anchor prides itself on sticking to its roots with authentic dishes that locals love but providing modern twists that keep things fresh and unique. Here’s what Clare had to say about the inspiration behind the menu.
“When setting out to create the new menu, it was important that we reached all audiences and made something everyone can enjoy. We wanted to craft seasonal dishes and hearty homemade food with plenty of variety for our Barnsley clientele.”
When asked about the process of sourcing ingredients, Clare said “It’s the combination of flavours which complement each other that makes a great dish so it’s very important to get them right. There was a lot of trial and error when trying out recipes to conclude what makes it the best flavour.”
Being based in Barnsley, means that The Crown and Anchor is surrounded by plenty of great local suppliers. Clare expressed the importance of choosing suppliers.
“Choosing a supplier is based on quality of product and we’re lucky to have links with so many great local companies. We source our meat from Crawshaws which is based in Barnsley and our fish is from just down the road at William Howe in Sheffield.”
The growing demand for alternative food options means that The Crown and Anchor has had to keep things fresh by creating new and exciting recipes that cater to everyone.
“It’s now become just as important to have an equal amount of vegan and vegetarian options as we want to cater to all our customers with a diverse menu. It’s been challenging and exciting to come up with new dishes that everyone enjoys, and so far the feedback has been great!”
The new spring menu at The Crown and Anchor will officially launch on April 15th and advanced bookings can be made directly online or by contacting the venue via phone or email.
